Welcome to the UCL biomedical libraries 11½ Things

Welcome to the UCL biomedical libraries 11½ Things. Over 6 weeks from 1 July 2011 this online course will introduce you to the use of various Web 2.0 applications in the context of academic research and clinical practice. Each week you’ll get a chance to experiment with various tools through carrying out  a couple of ‘things’ at a time convenient to you. We’ll be exploring and experimenting with different tools including blogs, twitter, diigo, SlideShare, Google Docs and YouTube. In most cases the ‘things’ you’ll be asked to do will include identifying real-life examples of Web 2.0 applications being used in biomedical research or clinical practice (or any other subject if you work in a non-biomedical library). We propose to put these examples together to create part of an online resource for our users to help support the use of Web 2.0.

Throughout the programme we’ll all be communicating and sharing our experiences through blog entries. You’ll need to write on your own blog about each thing you complete. Don’t worry, we’ll be telling you how to set up your own blog in week 1.

To sign up please complete this short survey, which will give us an idea of how much you already know about Web 2.0 and what you hope to achieve from the programme. Then we will email you to remind you to start looking at the course on 1 July 2011 when it officially starts.
